Shikoku Roadtrip Part 1: Ehime and Dōgo Onsen

I had always imagined Shikoku as a faraway place full of mystery, so it was with great anticipation and excitement that we drove our car off the ferry in Ehime Prefecture, Shikoku (after a shockingly quick boat-ride) and began a four-day road trip in unchartered territory.
Our first day in Shikoku was full of crystal-clear ocean views from the car window, as we drove the enchanting coastline of Ehime towards Matsuyama. One section of road in the Sadamisaki Peninsula is called "Melody Road" because your car tyres play a song as they go over special bumps in the road. We also were given free four-leaf clovers at the ferry port when we arrived. It all felt a little like magic, to be honest.

When the day's driving came to an end we found ourselves at the Dōgo hot spring area of Matsuyama, where we checked in to a wonderful ryokan and set out on foot. The main attraction of the hot springs town is its famous Dōgo Onsen Honkan public bathhouse which has over 1,000 years of history and is said to be the inspiration behind iconic Studio Ghibli animation Spirited Away. The town is also the setting for a famous novel by Natsume Sōseki -"Botchan".

ありがとう!Thanks for looking, more Shikoku island photos are on their way.
