Park Life: Sakura Season 2013 (Nishi Koen and Ohori Koen)

I can't begin to describe how sakura time feels. Suddenly, the city you live in is transformed into a soft, pink dreamland. There's a sense of urgency to get out of the office and spend at least one full day amongst the cherry trees before the petals begin to fall.

Luckily this year we fit in a very solid day of hanami while the trees were in full bloom. We got a lucky weather day on the weekend and decided to spend the afternoon picnicking at Nishi Coen in Fukuoka.

Apologies in advance for the photo-heavy posting...

After eating, drinking and enjoying the early afternoon at Nishi Coen, we packed our picnic up and walked across to check out the sakura at Maizuru Coen and Ohori Coen. The main part of the park was really busy and crowded, but we found a special, quiet spot above the main area with perfect mossy hills and weeping sakura trees.

It was pure heaven.

But just as quickly as the blossoms appear, their petals soon fall and the green leaves come out. That's when you know spring is really here.
