Fukuoka-shi Botanical Gardens

Today we took advantage of the perfect Autumn weather to take a ride to the Fukuoka-shi Botanical Gardens in Sakurazaka. The ride was a little more uphill than usual, but still really pleasant. It's nice to be able to ride our bikes everywhere, and we save lots of money on subway fares.

We got to use our new bento boxes, which we got at the ¥100 Daiso store yesterday. Mine is pink, and decorated with kitsch stickers, and Kam's is green. We had heaps of leftovers from last night's dinner (cha-han) so we had a really nice picnic lunch on the grass once we got into the Botanical Gardens.

We spent the afternoon wandering around the gardens, reading in a rose garden and looking at the city from various look-out towers. The following one was really nice, dripping in vines...

There was a really lovely, big rose garden. I appreciated the way the types of roses were arranged, especially because of the amazing pastel section of roses. All of the light pinks, lilacs, peaches and almost blue roses were standing side by side. Super dreamy...

Even though it wasn't raining, I wore my tartan raincoat to protect from the chilly wind whilst bike-riding. I also wore a funny badge I found at a Perth op-shop ages ago.

There was also a really cool Greenhouse, with orchids, a butterfly house and a cacti garden...

Some of the plants were amazingly tropical and bizarre. The following lilypads were amongst the coolest...

The Botanical Gardens are also linked to the Municipal Zoo, and the entry fee of ¥400 covers you for both attractions, so we decided to pop down to the Zoo before leaving.

We left the Zoo and started our little trek home, including these stairs back to where our bikes were parked...

On the way home we went up one last lookout, which was definitely worth it. The view of the city was great, and it's always fun to locate all of the places we've visited in Fukuoka from above...

Real fun times. Now we're gonna make burritos and enjoy our Sunday night.
