Take Me Out to the Ballgame: Watching the Softbank Hawks at Yahoo! Dome

You may remember from a previous post, Kam and I were lucky enough to win tickets to a baseball game at Yahoo! Dome. Our home team is the Softbank Hawks, and they are very much beloved by everyone living here. Baseball in Japan is a big thing, highschool championships are even broadcast on national TV. Serious stuff!

So the day came for our first game on Tuesday, and we rode down to the Dome to watch the Hawks vs. the Lions (Saitama)....

We picked up our free tickets at the gate, and made our way inside for the pre-game entertainment.

The venue continued to fill up through the first few innings, until the whole dome was full. I guess lots of people were late because they came straight from work.

We were a little worried at first, as the Lions started off strong with two home in the first innings, but that was about as far as they got...

Kamil really loves baseball, so it was really fun to go together to our first game. Especially because our team did so well...

In the 7th innings of Hawks games, everyone blows up these long yellow balloons...

Waves them around for a little bit of cheering...

And then releases them into the Dome!

So much fun! And at the end of the game, if the Hawks are victorious (which they really were, beating the Lions 7-2) the fans blow up white balloons, or "victory balloons", and release them in celebration of the win. Here's us getting our victory balloons ready...

After the game, I turned around to see this little guy sitting in the seat behind me. He was reaaaally cute, and his grandparents were really nice- they had actually been to Australia before, and the grandma professed her love for our Chardonnay and XXXX beer! Cute...

We thought it was all over, until the lights went off and they started the fireworks countdown!

Fireworks inside the Dome? Apparently it's all the norm for a Hawks game at the Yahoo! Dome....

All in all, we had a really awesome time at our free Hawks game. The game was more interesting than expected. After watching bits of the pro games on TV,  I had concluded that the players were all too efficient for much to happen (which is still a little true) but we got quite a bit of action in this game. Add to that- all of the extra entertainment and the general vibe of the crowd. I don't think that this was our last time going to the baseball.
